Developed for Honda's high-performance sportscars, VTEC^TM varies the lift and duration of the intake valves to provide optimum performance both at low and high rpm. Available on several high-horsepower Honda outboards, VTEC^TM delivers at low speeds, smooth stable idling with reduction in fuel consumption, while the increased valve lift at higher speeds broadens the torque curve and top end power.

Honda's revolutionary Boosted Low Speed Torque (BLAST^TM) air/fuel ratio and ignition-timing technology utilises MBT – Minimum advance for Best Torque – trace control. By linking the ignition timing control of the engine to the air/fuel ratio, it sets the optimum timing via computer control.

BLAST^TM traces the air/fuel ratio that results in the maximum torque for each engine revolution, while simultaneously tracing the maximum knock limit ignition timing that can be obtained using a rich air/fuel ratio in the full throttle zone, and advances the ignition timing to the limit, in order to produce greater torque.

This boost in horsepower and torque at low rpm contributes to strong hole shot performance to get the hull up on plane quickly!

There's much more than simply great cosmetic appearance behind that metallic silver finish. Each Honda engine undergoes a vigorous 4-stage coating process for protection against harsh conditions, like ultraviolet rays and extensive saltwater exposure. First, the double sealed, anodising treatment is applied to the Honda aluminium alloy base, followed by the epoxy primer undercoat, the acrylic silver metallic paint and finally the acrylic resin clear topcoat. With Honda, complete durability means applying innovation at every level.

Along with Honda's Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI), several models in Honda's outboard engine range incorporate lean burn control technology, which allows combustion to operate on a leaner air/fuel ratio than stoichiometric air/fuel ratio. An O2 sensor precisely controls the air/fuel mixture for the best fuel economy at cruise setting. The mode in which lean burn control is used during cruising to achieve higher fuel economy is referred to as ECOmo (Economy Controlled Motor).

Honda outboards are designed with the consumer in mind. That is why Honda's high horsepower outboards integrate an inverted flywheel at the base of the power head. This lowers the centre of gravity to greatly reduce vibration and provide smooth handling.

Honda four-stroke technology ensures low fuel consumption without compromising on performance. By comparison, Honda four-stroke outboards are around 50% more fuel efficient than conventional two-stroke models. Honda's technology also reduces harmful exhaust emissions.

Honda outboards come with a complete range of security features, including innovative Engine Alert Systems that monitor critical engine functions and alert the operator before any damage occurs. More importantly, junior operators have the tools they need to head out to sea with confidence. With neutral gear or start-in-gear protection, as well as an emergency kill switch that attaches to the operator's wrist, Honda increases confidence in all situations.

Honda is wired for the future. Equipment designed to the NMEA2000 standard has the ability to share and display data, including commands and status with other compatible equipment over a single channel.
